1)Streaming Video :
PS3 media server is a program writted in java , which works excellent as streaming server. It is available for Windows , Mac os x and Linux.It uses opensource codecs and programs and whatsoever , Transcoding rockz!
Download PS3 media server. to your pc ,
Install it ,
Add folders,
Choose folder to library,
voila , It shows PS3 detected.
Now in PS3 ,
Go to Video menu -> scan for media servers -> PS3 media server .
Now just browse through the files as you would do .
Enjoy.
2)streaming Music :
This one is a breeze. Use either itunes or VLC(http://videolan.org) to stream all your music through the net , do a scan for media server in Music menu at ps3 XMB.
3)Share Internet:
Got a USB modem but no router? Yes you can share your connection with PS3.
Get your network first through this guide.
Now open your Internet connection properties , go to advanced tab and choose Share this connection and choose the LAN connection which you have connected your ps3 to. Click ok to close all dialogs.
Redial connection if it is already connected.
Now in your PS3 , go to Settings -> Network settings -> Internet Connection test ,
it should show as internet Connection : Succeeded.
With this , you can browse , access playstation online.
4) show your networking skills ;P leet!
(Maybe , you have a question , like , hey ! why cant i do this with a router ? )
Direct connection is much faster than through router , more over , when your router is 100MBps , then you wont have significant speed and Streaming HD movies will be a Pain in so.)
Dont ask Why we did it, Because , We CAN!
